CSci 5708: Architecture and Implementation of DBMS

Exams
There will be two mid-term exams on the
dates indicated in the schedule and a final exam as
scheduled by the University.
The first midterm exam will cover topics in book chapters 1-10. The
second midterm exam will cover topics in book chapters 11-17. The final
exam will be inclusive, covering topics in book chapters 1-17.
The final exam is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 6:30-8:30 PM.
Homework
There will be four paper homework assignments, taken from problems in the textbook, given throughout the semester
on the dates indicated in the schedule. All work is due at the beginning of class on
the due date specified for each assignment, and must be typed. Due dates for the assignments are strict,
and each student is expected to complete the homework by themselves.
Homework assignments will be posted here throughout the semester.
Labs
Four lab projects will be assigned throughout the semester on the dates indicated in the schedule.
Labs consist of implementing various components of a database management system. The specific database we will use for this purpose
is Minibase, a fully-functional instructional database system from the University of Wisconsin. The version we will
be using is implemented in Java.
Lab assignments will be posted here throughout the semester.
Grading
Course work and exams will be weighted as follows:
