The optional `background materials' session will be on
Monday, Sept 29, 6:30-8pm,
CSci 3-125. The session will be on Unite.
We will be covering basics of probability, linear algebra, and related
topics. It will be a white-board session (no slides), primarily to
answer your questions.
- 09/24/08
We have added an additional grace day. So, now you have 5 grace days.
If you are using one/more grace days, your submission has to be fully online.
If you want, you
can scan and submit (preferably in pdf) hand-written answers.
- 09/17/08
We have a new late submission policy. Each student will have a total of 4 grace days
that can be used to extend the due date for some of the homeworks. You get to decide how
you want to use them, say 3 for HW1, and 1 for HW4, or 1 each for each of the homeworks.
If you are using grace days with a homework, your submission has to be fully through
the submit system (no papers allowed). As usual, it will due at Noon on the extended due
date. After you use up 4 days, the usual late submission policy will kick in.

Please download MALT here: http://www-users.itlabs.umn.edu/classes/Fall-2008/csci5525/malt.zip
It has been tested under 32bit and 64bit versions of Linux. It will not work on Solaris or
Windows. You will find some example code under "malt/code/dev/examples". We would encourage
you try it out. If you have any questions concerning MALT you can direct them to Rudy

Arindam will be on travel Sept 8-10. The lecture of Sept 08 has been recorded, and Rudy (TA)
will deliver the lecture of Sept 10, along with a tutorial on Matlab/MALT.
I (Arindam) will not have the regular office hours this week (due to travel).
If you want to discuss the course material, feel free to drop me a line to set up
an appointment.
