Announcements - Fall 2008

December 12 - Prof. Swanson will have office hours on Tuesday, December 16, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, at 1701 University Avenue, room 211.

Here are solutions to posted example problems:
December 8 - Final exam information:

The evening class final exam is Tuesday, December 16, 6:30-8:30 pm, EE/CS 3-230

The day class final exam is Thursday, December 18, 1:30-3:30 pm, EE/CS 3-210.

The final exam is comprehensive with some emphasis placed on topics since the written midterm exam. Here are a review document  listing topics to be covered and sample questions from previous exams.

There will be review sessions led by Teaching Assistants as follows:
  • Thursday, December 11, 1:00 - 3:00, EE/CS 3-125
  • Friday, December 12, 10:00 - 12:00, EE/CS 3-125
Here are two additional computer lab problems that will help you prepare for the exam:
November 26 - Here are summary documents for the following Standard Template Library classes:
November 7 - Here are the solutions to the sample lab midterm posted on November 3.

November 3  - The Lab Midterm exam will be given during the lab sections beginning Tuesday, November 11.  The Lab Midterm for the Monday lab sections will be on November 17.
  • Two hours: 90 minutes for exam and 30 minutes for grading
  • Sign-up for your two-hour time slot in this week's lab
  • Open book, notes, lab files, course web pages
  • A web browser can be connected to the course website
  • You can ask a TA about a "syntax"  problem (e.g., what does this error message mean?)
  • Material covered: chapters 1-5, and 12 of the text
  • If you finish early, your exam can be graded but in silence!
Here is a review document describing what will be covered on the Lab Midterm exam and a sample lab midterm (pdf format) from a previous semester.

October 20
- Here are the solutions to the sample midterm questions.

October 17
- Here are sample midterm exam questions. Note that the number of questions does not imply the number that will be on the exam.  Solutions to these questions will be posted on Monday.

October 13 -
The written midterm exam will be given next week:
  • Evening class: Tuesday, October 21 (6:30-7:20)
  • Day class: Wednesday, October 22.
It will be a 50-minute open book exam covering text chapters 1-4. Here is a review document listing topics to be covered.  Sample exam questions will be posted later this week.

October 8
- The location for TA office hours has changed.  Beginning tomorrow (Thursday) they will be held in EE/CS 2-170.  Also note that Dan Connors' office hours are now 11:00-1:00 Thursday.

September 23
- There have some changes to the office hours schedule:
  • Yi Zhang's hours are now 3:40-5:00 Tuesday and 11:15-12:15 Friday
  • Chuck Swanson's hours in the 4-250 lab are now 3:30-5:00 Thursday

September 12
- The student chapter of ACM is holding UNIX classes through next week.  Look for the announcements posted throughout the CS building.

September 8 - The officle hours have been posted.  TA office hours will be held in EE/CS 4-250 beginning Tuesday, September 9.

Example programs and other information presented in the day lecture will be posted on the Day Class Notes page.  Of course, students in the evening class are free to look!

August 29
- Please get an ITLabs computer account for fall semester 2008 before attending the first lab section meeting, if possible.  This can be done online at http://www.itlabs.umn.edu/.

You can also register for your ITLabs account during the first lab section meeting but then you may have to complete the first lab assignment outside of the lab section time.

Note: Students in Lab Sections 3 and 4 that meet on Tuesdays must attend the lab on Tuesday, September 2, even though they will not attend the first lecture until Wednesday.
