December 17 - Here are the solutions to the sample final exam questions and the vector<T> problem.

December 12
-Prof. Swanson will have office hours on Monday, December 17, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, in EE/CS 4-250.  Note that the teaching assistants will not have office hours after today.

Also note that the evening final exam scheduled for room EE/CS 3-230 will be held in EE/CS 3-210.

Finally, here is a vector<T> class problem that you can solve for review.  The solution will be posted on friday.

December 10
- The Lab Notes page has the code to add color and animation to the forest fire simulation of Lab 10.

December 7
- The final exam will be on Tuesday, December 18:
  • Day class 8:00 - 10:00 AM, EE/CS 3-210
  • Evening class 6:30 - 8:30 PM, EE/CS 3-230

The final exam is comprehensive with emphasis placed on topics since midterm exam 2. Here are a review document  listing topics to be covered and sample questions from previous exams.  Solutions will be posted next week.

There will be two review sessions led by teaching assistants:
  • Thursday, December 13, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, EE/CS 3-111
  • Friday, December 14, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, EE/CS 3-125

It will be a 50-minute, closed book exam primarily covering chapters 3-7 and 12.   Here are a review document listing topics to be covered and sample questions from previous exams. Solutions will be posted this weekend.

Note: Chuck Swanson will not have office hours on Tuesday, November 13.  He will hold his regular hours on Wednesday, 10:00-11:00, at 1701 University Avenue, room 211.

October 25
- This week's programs:
October 24 - The Lab Midterm exam will be given during the lab sections beginning Tuesday, October 30.  The Lab Midterm for the Monday lab section will be on November 5.
  • Two hours: 90 minutes for exam and 30 minutes for grading
  • Sign-up for your two-hour time slot in this week's lab
  • Open book, notes, lab files, course web pages
  • A web browser can be connected to the course website
  • You can ask a TA about a "syntax"  problem (e.g., what does this error message mean?)
  • Material covered: chapters 1-4, and 12 of the text
  • If you finish early, your exam can be graded but in silence!

- Putty is software that allows you to access your ITLABS account from off site.  Here are instructions to install Putty.

October 5

October 1 - Prof. Swanson will NOT have office hours on Tuesday, Oct. 2.  He will have his regular Wednesday office hours, 10:00-11:00 AM, 1701 University Avenue, room 211. Please see one the teaching assistants during office hours if you have questions regarding the midterm exam.

September 28

September 25 - Midterm Exam 1 will be given next week:
  • Evening class: Tuesday, October 2 (6:30-7:20)
  • Day class: Wednesday, October 3.
It will be a 50-minute closed book exam covering text chapters 1 and 2. Here are a review document listing topics to be covered and sample questions from previous exams.  Solutions will be posted on Friday.

September 24 - These will be useful for Lab 3 (discussed tomorrow for evening class):

- Students in Lab Sections 3 and 4 that meet on Tuesdays must attend the lab on Tuesday, September 4, even though they will not attend the first lecture until Wednesday.


Welcome to CSci 1113, Introduction to C/C++ Programming for Scientists and Engineers.  Be sure to check out the other pages listed on the menu bar.  These will be updated as information becomes available.

Students should get an ITLabs computer account for fall semester 2007 before attending the first lab section meeting, if possible.  This can be done online at http://www.itlabs.umn.edu/.

You can also register for your ITLabs account during the first lab section meeting but then you may have to complete the first lab assignment outside of the lab section time.
